How We Learn

Education via Exploration

Children are curious by nature. At Little Brown Bear Academy, we tap into that valuable natural resource by using observation and exploration as the cornerstone of our curriculum. Our Educators prepare thoughtful, age appropriate thematic units that are meaningful and exciting for our students. It is through this excitement about learning that we’re able to engage young minds and initiate understanding. When children are engaged and having fun, we know that they’re better equipped to grow intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Our intention is not only to enhance kindergarten readiness, but to instill confidence, healthy habits and a lifelong love of learning!

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is homegrown and inspired by children’s unique interest as well as a hybrid of educational styles including STEAM, inquiry, and play with an emphasis on the outdoors and the natural world. Our approach to learning is motivated by a love for nature, community, and our belief that all children are capable, have immense potential, and the ability to construct their own knowledge.

We believe in experiential learning! Our students dive, sometimes hands first, into a variety of subjects, including gardening, insects, animals, space, and the incredible flora and fauna we can explore right here in our community.

With Boston right at our doorstep, we’re fortunate to have access to a wealth of opportunities to explore our community resources. Past outings have included field trips to the Franklin Park Zoo, the New England Aquarium, the Boston Children's Museum, the Museum of Science, the Boston Nature Center, and many green spaces across the city.
